From Sultan Thaha Airport, your can reach the site in less than one hour through land transportation or through the river from the Batanghari River. Old canals or man-made rivers are there to connect the Batanghari River with the site. The site covers an area of 2,062 hectares where around 82 ancient buildings, Sumatra endemic plants and primary and secondary vegetations are living.

According to UNESCO, the Muaro Jambi Temple Compound Site has unique value due to the universal value of its cultural heritage findings and the preserved environment as well as it reflected technology and architectural development.

Based on archaeology research and historical sources, the Muaro Jambi Temple was once the center of worship and education of the Buddhist religion in the 7 to – 14th Century AD. The site itself is quite clean and peaceful since the local community always maintains it very well. In addition, local communities also provide bicycles for rent for visitors at very reasonable price only Rp. 10,000,- or less than $1 for an hour. There is also canoe rent available for children to play at the small rivers in the middle of the site.
