How to Reach Derawan Island
Derawan Island can be reached easily by airplane from Jakarta, the Capital City of Indonesia. There are several air routes available, among others:
- Jakarta – Balikpapan – Berau and
- Jakarta – Balikpapan – Tarakan.
However, there are several airplanes provide direct flights both to Derawan or Tarakan. Each of those routes has its own benefits and disadvantages. The first route is more expensive than the second one due to the availability of freight. But, the first route from Bureau to Derawan Island through the sea consumes shorter time than from Tarakan to Derawan Island through land transportation. For lodging, no need to worry since there are some nice hotels, guest houses, and resorts available. Foods are relatively expensive, especially vegetables and fruits are quite limited in this remote area.
